Guided imagery- a useful technique for relaxation

Guided imagery can be an effective technique to release stress. It is quite simple, all you need is a quiet place that you find comfortable and an imagination. If there are any distracting noises, try playing some soothing music without lyrics. Try sitting in a recliner or comfortable chair. Get comfortable and clear your mind. Focus on taking deep calming breaths.


Next think of a place or moment in time when you felt completely relaxed. In your mind focus on the imagery and go there again or create a new place of your own thats perfectly relaxing, maybe your perfect place is made up of multiple places or things. An example may be laying out at a warm sandy beach in the ocean breeze.


You can do this for as long as you like, if this is your first time try starting out with 20-30 minutes. If you practice often you may only need 5-10 minutes to get to a relaxed state.
